The Belarusian manufacturer of mining dump trucks, BELAZ, and PJSC MMC Norilsk Nickel have signed a strategic agreement on the joint development and production of dump trucks with battery-powered engines. This was announced by Mikhail Rak, Deputy Chief Designer of BELAZ, at INNOPROM-2025.
"We are seriously working on battery-powered dump trucks. Yesterday, we signed a strategic agreement with Renera and Norilsk Nickel on the development of this topic. This is environmentally friendly transport, allowing us to move away from dependence on internal combustion engines," said Mikhail Rak.
In addition, BELAZ is actively developing a dump truck with a hydrogen fuel engine. A prototype capable of operating in a quarry and transporting rock mass is planned to be released this year. Testing of the technology has been successfully carried out at the company's test site.
BELAZ is one of the world's leading manufacturers of mining dump trucks and equipment for the mining industry, producing, among other things, the world's largest mining dump truck with a carrying capacity of 450 tons.
It is noted that the company has invited everyone to take part in the International Industrial Exhibition INNOPROM-2025.
